Job Description
Job Summary The Long Vehicle Driver is responsible for the safe, professional, and efficient long-distance transportation of heavy goods, raw materials, or finished products across regional and national road networks. This role demands expert maneuvering of heavy-duty articulated trucks, strict adherence to road traffic laws, and keeping strict delivery timelines. Responsibilities Long-Distance Transport Operations Drive heavy-duty, multi-axle, and articulated trucks over long distances following designated routes. Navigate varying road conditions safely while hauling maximum capacity tonnage. Manage long driving shifts effectively by following mandatory rest intervals to prevent fatigue. Vehicle Care & Routine Inspections Conduct thorough daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (checking tires, brake systems, fluids, couplers, lights, and air lines). Report any mechanical faults, wearing components, or unusual engine behaviors immediately to the Transport Manager. Keep the vehicle cabin clean and ensure the truck undergoes scheduled preventative maintenance. Cargo Management & Logistics Support Inspect cargo distribution before departure to ensure weight limits are legal and evenly balanced. Confirm that flatbeds, trailers, or containers are securely locked and strapped to avoid shifting during travel. Hand over delivery paperwork, waybills, and logbooks accurately at both loading points and drop-off hubs. Compliance & Road Safety Adhere strictly to the National Highway Code, speed limits, and heavy-vehicle traffic regulations. Comply with weighing station procedures at all designated checkpoints along transit corridors. Practice defensive driving techniques, maintaining high alert levels to protect company property and public road users.
Requirement(s)
Valid Ghana Driver’s License Class F (Heavy-Duty / Articulated vehicle classification). Minimum of 3 to 5 years of active experience driving long-haul, heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Practical experience handling heavy Chinese-brand trucks (e.g., Howo, Shacman) is highly preferred. Zero tolerance for major traffic violations, reckless driving records, or recent commercial vehicle accidents. Excellent physical health and perfect distance vision, with the stamina required for extensive long-haul travel. Ability to read and write clearly, communicate effectively over phone/radio with dispatchers, and coordinate politely at delivery hubs.
